Have you ever picked out an outfit based on what areas you’ve shaved? Ladies, you are not alone. Going out entails more than just finding the right look. Often we have to ensure our underarms, legs, and bikini lines are smooth and hair free. Having to shave can add a significant amount of time to your morning routine. Depending on how fast your hair grows, there are a few techniques you can use to remove hair and extend the life of your shave:
1. Disposable razors
Disposable razors are good when you’re in a hurry. They are also relatively inexpensive method for hair removal. However, cheaper is not always better. To avoid nicks and cuts, its best to invest in a quality disposable razor (with a moisturizing strip) and shaving gel with moisturizing properties. Remember razors are disposable for a reason. It’s a good idea to change them out every few shaves.
2. Home waxing kits
Waxing tends to last a little longer than shaving. You could pay someone to wax you at a salon or spa, which can be pricey, or you could use a home waxing kit. These kits come in different formats from wax strips to wax beads. There are many options to try if you want to do the wax yourself. However, be wary that it can hurt and irritate sensitive skin.
3. Sugaring
The use of sugar to remove hair is less painful than waxing. The sugar is used to make a paste that is smoothed over the skin and ripped off like a wax. However, the sugar is gentler as it attaches more to the hair and doesn’t irritate the skin around it. You can sugar at home or go to a salon and have a professional do it.
4. Threading
Threading is a hair removal technique best used for eyebrows and smaller areas (i.e., upper lip). Depending on your pain tolerance level, threading can be very uncomfortable. The process involves rolling thread over the areas of unwanted hair. The thread plucks away the hair at the follicle level. While the pain is not as intense as waxing, you do feel the hair being pulled from your skin.
5. Depilatory creams
These creams are used to remove the hair from your skin without waxing or shaving. Depilatory creams break down the protein in the hair. To use them to remove hair, you apply the cream to the area with hair and wait the appointed time listed in the instructions. Once the time has passed, take a damp cloth and wipe the cream off. The hair comes off with the cream. It’s a painless method to remove hair. This is one of the most user-friendly ways to remove hair. Popular depilatory creams include name brands like Nair, Veet, and Sally Hanson.
6. Laser hair removal
This method is by far the most expensive technique to remove hair, but it may also be the most effective, sometimes permanent. Laser hair removal uses a laser to target the hair follicles and eliminate them at the root. The result is not permanent and it takes several treatments to get to the point where you do not have to shave again. Laser hair removal should always be performed by a licensed professional.
Any of the above methods are effective in removing unwanted hair. A little trial and error will be needed to find the method that works best for you.
